The Duke of York’s theatre was built in 1892 to the designs of Walter Emden and is Grade II listed. Foster Wilson Size have helped with a number of improvements to this popular West End theatre, including a full restoration of the facade.
The facade had suffered from a number of problems, including water soaking into the brickwork from unprotected parapets. Our work at the theatre has involved dressing the projecting parapets and cills in lead and replacing water damaged brickwork.
Working with paint specialist, Hare & Humphries, the facade column capitals have been carefully gilded and the theatre name added to the entablature. We also undertook repair to restore the decorative metalwork of the side gates and all of the original timber windows.
